When someone in Khammam searches "doctor near me" or "restaurant near Khammam bus stand", Google shows a map with 3 businesses. That's the Local Pack — the most valuable real estate in local search.
To appear there, you need a verified Google Business Profile. Here's exactly how to set one up.
Step 1: Go to Google Business Profile
Open business.google.com and sign in with your Google account. Click Manage now or Add your business.
If your business already exists (Google sometimes creates listings automatically), claim it instead of creating a new one.
Step 2: Enter Your Business Name
Type your business name exactly as you want it to appear on Google Maps. Don't add keywords to your name (e.g., "Sharma Clinic Best Doctor Khammam") — Google may suspend your listing for this.
Step 3: Choose the Right Category
This is the most important step. Your primary category tells Google what kind of business you are.
Be specific:
- "General Practice Physician" not just "Doctor"
- "South Indian Restaurant" not just "Restaurant"
- "Real Estate Agency" not just "Agency"
You can add secondary categories later.
Step 4: Add Your Location
If customers visit your premises, add your address. Enter it exactly as it appears on official documents — this consistency matters for SEO.
If you're a service-area business (e.g., you go to clients), you can hide your address and set a service area instead. Select the districts or cities you serve across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Step 5: Add Contact Details
Add your phone number and website URL. If you don't have a website yet, this is a strong reason to build one — Google ranks businesses with websites higher.
Step 6: Verify Your Listing
Google needs to verify that you're the real owner. Options:
- Postcard — Google mails a code to your address (5–14 days)
- Phone/SMS — instant for many businesses
- Email — instant for some business types
- Video call — you show your business location on a live video
Choose the fastest option available to you.
Step 7: Complete Your Profile — Don't Skip This
Once verified, fill in every section:
- Business hours — accurate opening and closing times, including lunch breaks
- Photos — add at least 10 photos: exterior, interior, products, team, menu (for restaurants)
- Services — list every service you offer with a brief description
- Description — 750 characters about your business, naturally including "Khammam" and your services
- Attributes — "accepts UPI", "wheelchair accessible", "women-led" etc.
Businesses with complete profiles get significantly more views than incomplete ones.
Step 8: Get Your First Reviews
Google Maps rankings are heavily influenced by reviews. Ask your first 5–10 satisfied customers to leave a review.
The easiest way: send them your Google review link via WhatsApp. You can find it in your GBP dashboard under "Get more reviews."
Don't offer discounts for reviews — Google prohibits this. Just ask.
Step 9: Post Updates Regularly
Google Business Profile lets you post updates, offers, and announcements. Businesses that post regularly signal to Google that they're active, which helps rankings.
Post at least twice a month. Even a simple "New service available" or "Updated hours for summer" counts.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Duplicate listings — check if a listing already exists before creating one
- Wrong category — spend time picking the most accurate one
- Inconsistent NAP — your Name, Address, Phone must match exactly across your website, GBP, and all directories
- Ignoring reviews — respond to every review, positive or negative
- No photos — listings without photos get far fewer clicks
