You set up a Google Business Profile months ago. But when someone searches for your business type in Khammam, you're nowhere on the map.
This happens for specific, fixable reasons. Here are the six most common ones.
Reason 1: Your Listing Isn't Verified
This is the number one issue. An unverified Google Business Profile is not shown in Maps at all.
Verification requires Google to confirm that you're the legitimate owner of the business at that address. Until you complete this step, your listing exists but is invisible.
How to fix it: Go to business.google.com, find your listing, and look for a "Verify now" option. Google will send a postcard to your address with a code, or offer phone/video verification depending on your business type.
Reason 2: Wrong Business Category
Google uses your business category to decide when to show your listing. If your category is too broad or incorrect, you won't appear for the searches that matter.
A "Physician" category won't show for "gynaecologist near me." A "Food service" category won't show for "biryani restaurant Khammam."
How to fix it: Go to your GBP dashboard → Edit profile → Business category. Choose the most specific category that matches your primary service. You can add secondary categories for other services.
Reason 3: No Reviews or Very Few Reviews
Google Maps rankings heavily favour businesses with reviews. A listing with 0 reviews rarely appears in the top 3 results, no matter how long it's been live.
This is especially true in competitive categories like clinics, restaurants, and legal services.
How to fix it: Ask your last 10 satisfied customers to leave a Google review. Send them this message on WhatsApp: "If you were happy with our service, could you leave us a quick Google review? It takes 30 seconds and helps us a lot." Include your review link.
Reason 4: NAP Inconsistency
NAP means Name, Address, Phone. If these details don't match across your website, your GBP, Justdial, Sulekha, and other directories — Google gets confused about which information is correct.
For example: your GBP says "15-3-132/7B" but your website footer says "15/3, Wyra Road." Google sees these as potentially two different businesses and reduces trust in both.
How to fix it: Audit every place your business appears online. Make the name, address, and phone number identical everywhere. Even small differences matter.
Reason 5: Your Listing Has No Photos
Google's own data shows that listings with photos receive significantly more clicks and direction requests than those without.
An empty listing with no images looks untrustworthy and signals to Google that the business may not be active.
How to fix it: Add at least 10 photos. Include: your shopfront or clinic entrance, interior, your team or yourself, your products or menu items, any certifications or awards. Use actual photos — not stock images.
Reason 6: Your Listing Is New
Google takes time to build confidence in new listings. A brand-new GBP, even when fully filled out and verified, may not appear prominently in Maps for 2–4 months.
During this period, Google is assessing whether your business is legitimate based on signals like reviews, website quality, citations (mentions on other directories), and user engagement.
How to fix it: Be patient, but also be active. Post updates on your GBP regularly. Respond to any reviews that come in. Make sure your website is live and linked. Build citations on Justdial, Sulekha, and IndiaMART.
One More Thing: Your Service Area Setting
If you're a service-area business (like a plumber, electrician, or delivery service), make sure you've set your service areas correctly in GBP. An incorrect or missing service area will prevent you from showing up in searches from areas you serve.
Summary
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Not verified | Complete verification via business.google.com |
| Wrong category | Update to most specific matching category |
| No reviews | Ask recent customers to leave a review via WhatsApp |
| NAP inconsistency | Match name, address, phone across all directories |
| No photos | Add 10+ real photos of your business |
| New listing | Stay active — posts, reviews, updates for 2–3 months |
If you've fixed all of the above and still aren't ranking, the problem is likely competitive — other businesses in Khammam have stronger profiles, more reviews, and better websites.
